In keeping with the tradition we established in The VSS, the scarce archive of live videos for Pleasure Forever is mostly from the weirdest shows or with bad sound. This clip is the former: The sound guy mixed the drums way too loud and the guitars were nearly inaudible for all of the bands that played. The obnoxious video effects were added on the live projection of the show, not by us. The mood in the band was dour on top of it, so it’s not an exceptional performance. So why post it?!? More Gore Productions cinematic feasts, circa 1983-1984. The Gut Retcher is an early attempt at splatter horror. Land Of The Dead 2 is the culmination of more experience and more gore. These films were made over many weekends shooting on Super 8 film with limited resources for editing, special effects, audio and actors.

i was there. we cut band practice early to go to the show. i'd never seen anything like it before. They set up in the middle of the room and everyone surrounded them. Sonny had a homemade light board on the floor made from 2x4s with clamp on flood lights attached to them. He'd stomp on a different on/off switch to change the light/color pattern. Their whole set made such an impression on me. They sounded different from everything i'd heard. Still one of my favorite bands.

As a joke, because the two songs are thematically interchangeable. And 'We Didn't Start The Fire" actually syncs up with the song better than the real REM video.

Their “I cut my teeth”/“cosmic retribution” 7” is still easily one of my favorite vinyl purchases of all time. At the time, these guys were pioneers. First DIY band I saw with a light show. I think they actually beat BOTCH to the punch in that respect.
Such a tragedy that they split so quickly. I wish there would have at least been another album. Such a legendary band amongst those who were there to witness.

Great thank you so much for uploading this! And who would know in less than 2 years from this show, Emma Ruth, Greg and Dave would have finished Kitsune for Marriages! I saw that tour with Russian Circles and Chelsea Wolfe on a sweltering August evening in NC - Dave Turncrantz played drums for Marriages since Mr. Clifford apparently could not tour.
